Hello everyone! Today, we spent a full day in Siena! We woke up at 7, rode the bus to Sienna and ate breakfast at the best little cafe! I got this delicious latte macchiato and creme filled croissant. It was absolutely amazing! We were able to have free time most of the day so I shopped a ton. I was able to buy gifts for my family and walking around the bellissima (beautiful) town!
One of my favorite shops of the trip was a leather store. The owner was working and he was so thrilled to have us look at his work. He showed us pictures of him actually hand crafting the leather and was very friendly. I also got some 18 carat gold hoops from a nice jewelry store to wear and hopefully keep for a long time!
Some of the group went to a restaurant in the square and I got a caprese salad with buffalo mozzarella. It was so much more creamy and fresh than usual mozzarella. The tomatoes are ripe in season and they were so delicious. I also got two olives on the side with the pit still. I have never eaten an olive and had to take out the pit so that was interesting.
Next, we made a trip as a group to the Siena Cathedral. This was one of the most beautiful views in all my life. The ceilings were enormous and the architecture was absolutely beyond words. We were able to climb up on a very narrow stairway to the very highest point that overlooks Tuscany from all sides. It was breathtaking to see the city at its outer parts and then view all of the rolling farmland and hills.
We left Siena and rode an hour back to the villa, ate some dinner and ended the night here in Umbria!
